Experiment Day: Sink and Float – Kindergarten Science

On Experiment Day, the classroom was filled with excitement as the students gathered around a large bowl of water for a hands-on activity to explore the concepts of sinking and floating. Each child took turns selecting an object from the collection, and we tested whether it would sink or float when placed in the water. The teacher began by explaining that objects behave differently in water. Some will float on top, and some will sink to the bottom. The children were encouraged to make guesses about which objects would float and which would sink like eraser, leaves, stones, flowers, metal spoon etc. One by one, the students dropped the objects into the water, observing what happened. The students were asked what they learned from the experiment. Many of them excitedly shared that "things that are light float" and "things that are heavy sink." The children were able to make predictions, observe the results, and begin to understand the basic scientific principles of buoyancy. This activity not only introduced them to science in an interactive way but also encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills.
